Who is best suited to this type of work?

The truly fascinating thing about the people who do network marketing is that they come from all walks of life.  There are lawyers who got fed up with the constant conflict they saw every day, single moms, ex-figure skaters, school teachers, real estate agents suffering from the downturn in the housing market, professionals business savvy folks and those with no business experience.  There isn’t any one type of profession that seems to best prepare you to become a successful Independent consultant in the network marketing business model.

While it is true that many of the most successful people are also the best “connected” it isn’t a barrier to success if you do not already have a large circle of “influence.”  So what are the traits that seem to help ensure success?

First there must be a willingness to learn from your team.  Failing to listen and learn from their extensive knowledge can be a fatal mistake.  The last thing you want to do is dive into your own marketing program without understanding the product or needs of your customers.  This will only cause you frustration and set you up for failure.

Second, you must be willing to take a risk.  That may sound obvious to anyone thinking about starting a business, but it can be a major hurdle for you if you are completely averse to risk.  There is the initial financial investment that you are risking but more than that, you must be able to risk rejection.  Understand that for every call you make or person you talk to – rejection is more than likely.  You may even need to make one hundred or more calls to get one yes.  This is the nature of sales work.    If you are the kind of person to take “no thanks” personally then sales is not the career for you.

Third, you must be willing to stay with it for six months to one year before you decide it doesn’t work.  The single biggest mistake that people in network marketing make is quitting too soon.  Be sure that you are determined and dedicated and you too can be successful in network marketing. 

Remember – the stakes are high – network marketing has made more millionaires than any other business model.  It’s worth pursuing, but only for the serious minded.
